Sleep & Airway Assessment

The Growth Institute places the deep connection between orthodontics and airway health at the centre of its treatment philosophy. Sleep quality, concentration, growth and overall health are directly linked to breathing through the nose rather than the mouth.

Who Benefits?

Children who snore or breathe through their mouth, and adults who wake up tired or have been diagnosed with sleep apnoea, all benefit from our assessment.

Our Approach

A comprehensive assessment is conducted in collaboration with a sleep physician, ENT specialist and orthodontist. Where appropriate, a mandibular advancement device, expander appliance or re-training exercises are planned.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is sleep apnoea related to orthodontics?
Yes. A narrow jaw structure, small jaw (retrognathia) or tongue-base issues can directly affect sleep apnoea. Orthodontic treatment can widen the airway in some cases.
I noticed my child snores — is this normal?
Snoring and mouth breathing are common in children but are not normal; they can negatively affect airway development. We recommend visiting our clinic for an assessment.
Does treatment replace a CPAP device?
Every case is different. In mild-to-moderate apnoea cases, mandibular advancement devices or orthodontic treatment may be sufficient; in severe cases a combination with CPAP may be needed.
